In this paper the authors present a concept of using magnetic shape memory (MSM) actuators as a multifunctional material for control, altering and tuning of forced vibration of a rotor. By the use of MSM actuator properties a concept of a special rotor rig has been worked out. The main part of the rotor rig is a smart bearing assembly. The smart bearing assembly utilises an actuator with the magnetic shape memory effect (MSME). The authors have also presented a newe one-dimensional phenomenological model of MSME obeserved in magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMA). Certain results of previous investigations related to MSME have been shown.
