One of the tasks of the Mechanical Design Engineer is the analyses and the synthesis of mechanisms. Among others tasks drive forces and torques have to be determined as well as the curves of special points on the moving bodies of the mechanism. In this paper it is shown with an example of a truck skip loader how a mechanism drive can be dimensioned time efficiently by using a multi body simulation program even without deeper knowledge of kinematics of mechanisms. The bulk freight movement can be taken into account. Among others the locus of the center of gravity is calculated. The simulation tool which is utilized is SimMechanics, a toolbox of Matlab/Simulink, which is widely used in industry and universities.
