Complicate climate in Russia exert influence in choose of necessary frictional material for Railway Rolling Stock brake shoes. They can be produced by polymer organic, sintered materials and binary metals. At present Russian Railways conduct the wide field tests of brake shoes manufactured by different frictional materials in order to receive the best economic benefits. The conclusions of the tests will indicate that significant improvements in wheel surface characteristics and savings in cost of wheel maintenance may be obtained by use of the best types of composite brake shoes with cast iron inserts, sintered brake shoes or binary metal shoes in Russian Railway operation.
