Simulation studies can profitably be applied in the development of driver assistance systems in automotive industry to accelerate the design process and to reduce the effort of test drives. This paper presents an approach for modelling and simulating the environment for capturing car-surrounding situations by sensor systems. Currently description and simulation of LIDAR systems (Light Distance and Ranging) are implemented, but the system is open for each type of sensor.
