Structural durability design of fatigue loaded welded constructions principally requires a good balance between the selection of material and manufacturing to realize structural design under given service loads for a defined lifetime. In this context, the safety and reliability of the constructions depend on how precise the applied design concepts are and how well the scatters of manufacturing quality, fatigue strength and loads are considered. These issues are discussed through the example of Knodes applied in energetic offshore constructions like oil platforms or wind power plants, presenting the state of the art.
