The market has become very competitive with a large number of me too products. In this competitive environment, Highland Industries, part of global supplier, Takata, is focused on total safety systems supply, and technological advantage. It is this wrap-around capability, plus its technology, that the company believes gives them an edge over a growing number of producers in developing markets. The airbag fabric has exceptional strength and the versatility to withstand extremes in temperature and environment. In addition, as part of the Takata group, there is the capability within that group, to develop and supply the total package of airbag automotive safety technology. Highland's origins lay inside US textile giant Burlington, but it became part of Japan's Takata Group in 1988. Being part of Takata gives Highland access to a wide technology base and enables the company to progress product development with customers from the ground-up. It also gives them a global reach. In addition to its safety technology, other Highland materials are also at the cutting edge in automotive textiles. At TTNA the company will be pushing its HiFlow 3D spacer fabric. This was developed for automotive climate control seating. Produced in a single step it is incorporated as part of the laminate that Tier 1 's put together. The advantage is a much better through air flow than a foam and greater resilience. Highland has also used the product in Kayak seating and is developing applications in the medical field. At the other end of the materials spectrum, Highland also produces a carbonised rayon fabric that provides a thermal barrier in solid rocket nozzles.
