In this brief, the development and implementation of a rail track inspection system is discussed. The system uses ground penetrating RADAR for detecting subsurface deteriorations and visual inspection for identifying surface defects on railway tracks. A Biquad bow-tie antenna is used for transmitting and receiving RF sweep signal. Agilent E5061A, 300 KHz to 1.5 GHz vector network analyzer is used as FMCW GPR system. The processing of RADAR signals is done in MATLAB using MUSIC algorithm. Visual inspection is done using a CCD camera interfaced with LabVIEW.
