Nanosized powders of Si3N4-based composites have been obtained by the method of plasmachemical synthesis. Powders can be used for production of fine-grained ceramic materials with increased mechanical properties and low friction coefficient. The further improvement of physico-mechanical characteristics of materials and the development of new materials are closely related to a wider application of refractory compounds and their homogeneous composites. In order to produce fully dense ceramics of homogeneous fine-grained microstructure and with consistent properies, the use of a homogeneous active nanosize precursor powder is essential.
