The worldwide competition in the field of aircraft structures has led to an increasing need for functionality and safety as well as reduction of costs. Improved properties of aircraft stringer profiles could be realized by aluminum-wire compound extrusion. The primary goals are increased safety against crack initiation and crack growth as well as a higher residual strength against failure after harmful impact of foreign objects. The aim of the present study is to establish the process for the high strength aluminum alloys AA6056 and AA2099 reinforced with Nivaflex (CoCr20W15Ni10) or Nanoflex (X2CrNiMo12-9-4) wires. The mechanical properties were analyzed by tensile tests, which were carried out path-controlled with a universal testing machine and a crosshead speed of 2.2*10-3 mm/s. The specimens had a gauge length of 20 mm, a gauge diameter of 3 mm and consequently a volume fraction of reinforcement of 11%. Compound extruded profiles can increase the mechanical properties of aluminum profiles significantly. A precise prediction of the compound's behavior is possible if considering the increased plastic deformation of the reinforcement embedded in the matrix material. Due to this the increased sigma'M at fracture of the embedded reinforcement has to be taken into account for the prediction.
