Continental and Michelin provided measurement data for free use by the TMPT (tyre model performance test). The aim of this paper is to describe how these data are experimentally obtained. Then some insight into the data's physical meaning is given. In the last part, it is shown how the effort for gathering these data interferes with the tire development process. Finally, a proposal is made to replace the costly and time consuming measurement process by a far more adapted simulation process aiming for the satisfaction of both the customer and suppliers.
