The EADS Corporate Research Center is engaged in developing innovative solutions, to improve sound proofing in aircraft cabins. Researchers at the EADS Corporate Research Center have adopted the approach of converting the trim panels into anti-noise elements, taking advantage of the effects of destructive wave interference. Researchers have found that noise can be controlled by creating additional waves in an opposite phase, as all noise-induced vibrations are waves with peaks and valleys. Aircraft cabin noise vibrations are controlled by sensing the structural vibrations, with acceleration sensors and counter-vibrating the panels with appropriate actuators, resulting in reduced sound radiation.
