This paper proposes a new type of thermally resistant coating inorganic-organic hybrid called "hybrid glass" for use in the harsh aerospace environment. This hybrid glass coating can be readily applied on optical fiber as a single UV curable layer, bonding covalently to the fiber to provide it with enhanced strength and environmental durability. Additional benefits include smaller fiber diameter, minimal bend radius and ease of termination.
