Industry analysts predict that within the next few years advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) will replace as much as half of the steels now are used in automobile industry. This paper summarizes the latest developments of AHSS products. General publication sources (Advanced High Strength Steel Application Guidelines, Surface Vehicle Recommended Practice SAE J2745 document) are introduced where the user can get information about different types of AHSS. To specify these overview following recent AHSS developments are briefly described in terms of their mechanical characteristics, their formability and tips for fabricating them as well as potential application fields in automobiles: DP steel, hot-dip galvanized and galvannealed steel, press-hardened boron steel, TRIP steel, martensitic steel, HHE grades, air-hardening steels. Additional information about the different AHSS types can be found on the company's website that at listed at each chapter of the article.
