In this paper, firstly some main problems including the imaging resolution and choice of pulse repetition frequency (PRF) are discussed according to the imaging characteristics of missile-borne millimeter wave (MMW) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for ground target. Secondly a new scheme of motion compensation which consists of range alignment, phase adjustment and compensation for the movement with non-uniform velocity is presented. Thirdly image reconstruction algorithm using superresolution spectrum estimation based on linear spectrum extrapolation technique is given. Finally the effect of maneuvering targets' 3-dimensionaI (3D) rotation on the imaging quality of missile-borne MMW SAR is analyzed. The effectiveness and efficiency of utilizing the proposed imaging method and the effect of 3-D rotation are demonstrated by means of simulation results.
