The increase in the traction-drive power reults in the necessity of improving the existing system of the traction power supply. A possibility to improve the trolleybus power-supply system by decreasing energy losses during transmissions from the power supply source to the power feed line is considered. The passage from the existing two-wire power-supply system to the DC three-wire system is proposed. It requires the modernization of the power-supply circuits by passing from the traction-transformer winding connection by star-two inverse stars with equalizing reactor to that by star-star, delta with the series connection between three-phase bridge rectifiers. A method for calculating losses for the proposed circuit solution is described. Taking account of the real conditions of motion, 9 different situations of the mutual location of trolleybuses are considered. The studies of the mathematical model describing the proposed power-supply system show that the lengths of the regions between substations may be doubled and technological energy losses may be approximately halved.
