Tire radiation noise is not only an interior noise problem observed in vehicle cabin but in outer space a very important environmental and social issue. While, the requirement of rolling resistance and weight reduction of tire looms large these days in respect of global environment and natural resource saving. However, these tire performances are sometimes in trade-off relation. In this paper, we focus on tire radiation noise, especially on establishing a solid simulation technology which can effectively be used in practical engineering. To achieve the goal, FE analysis is extensively used. First, tire vibration calculation is conducted by predicting the excitation force generated by the slots of tire tread. The vibration calculation uses FE model capable of representing complicated geometry of tire tread and wheel. The FE model has a good accuracy of transmissibility up to 800Hz. Then, exterior acoustic field is discretized and calculated by using tire surface response obtained by the previous vibration analysis. For each vibration mode in specified spectrum band, cause analysis and improvement study of tire radiation noise can be conducted. The present study demonstrates the sequential analysis of tire vibration and exterior acoustics, and it is effective for the analysis of tire radiation noise.
