To characterize the behaviour of new wireless Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems in the aircraft cabin, MIMO channel measurements are required. The key target is to determine a MIMO channel model, the MIMO channel capacity and an antenna infrastructure for MIMO systems in the aircraft cabin. To derive a MIMO a channel model and to make a statement about the achievable MIMO channel capacity and the maximal possible data rate, the channels from every transmit to every receive antenna have to be estimated simultaneously and not consecutively. Using the channel estimates the MIMO channel capacity is calculated. For the realization of MIMO channel measurements in the aircraft cabin, the channel estimation of MIMO frequency selective channels is presented. Optimal training sequence design is presented. To fulfill the requirements of the capacity calculation the measured MIMO channels have to be normalized. The normalization of measured MIMO channels is derived in this paper. Finally for frequency selective MIMO channels the calculation of the MIMO channel capacity is reviewed.
