This paper describes a novel concept of electro-mechanical beam scanning which is applicable to automotive sensor systems. The scanning mechanism employs a rotating ridge in a metal waveguide slot array. The simulation of scan properties is presented and a proof-of-concept experimental antenna supports the results. A scan range of 9 deg is demonstrated and simulations of an alternative design show 23 deg to be feasible.
