Road safety telematic systems are complex heterogeneous systems. The technology to build them exists and can save lives and reduce the severity of car accident injuries. However for the solution to be feasible, among others, it is necessary to achieve multi-vendor interoperability. Early defined specifications for interfaces together with a testing methodology and test tools are essential. This communication presents the methodology to develop test tools for road safety telematic systems and the key design considerations and architectural approach to be able to build test tools capable of efficiently coping with the foreseen communication technology evolution. Results of the test tools using prototypes of telematic control units developed within GST are also presented.
