A genetic-algorithm (GA) based strategy is presented for suitable weight selection in Hinfinity loop shaping. The loop shaping is currently performed manually and usually a trial and error method. To solve this problem an automatic loop-shaping method based on GAs is introduced and air vehicle example is used to examine the performance of the proposed automatic loop shaping. A classical PID compensator tuned by using genetic algorithm is used as weight (pre-compensator) in Hinfinity loop shaping for design of pitch controller. Analysis has been carried out using, singular value and step response plots. The analysis and results achieved indicate that Hinfinity controller so designed via proposed automatic loop shaping control theory provides good performance and robust stability at different flight conditions for attitude control of air vehicle.
