This paper deals with the-state space representation of a nonlinear model of a pipeline. First, the mathematical model of the pipeline is presented in its normalized form. Then the method of characteristics is used to transform the model into a form suitable for representing the model in state space. The resulting nonlinear state space-model is verified using measurements on a real pipeline.
