Today the devices in automotive environments are linked by several independent CAN, LIN and FlexRay networks. The interconnection technique between these networks is one of the fastest developing areas in automotive electronics. In recent years the improved capabilities enabled many new features, e.g. driver assistance systems. However, the verification of complex gateway systems is problematic. A failure can affect safe operation of all interconnected networks. A remaining bus simulation can be only one attempt towards full verification. Usually just the most common network traffic is checked. The setup of such a test environment is done manually and can take a long time. It almost never covers the complete range of possible gateway mappings. Having an automated verification configuration generator is still outstanding. Going one step further, a regression test environment which reacts to the gateway responses during test and which can, in case of an error, reset the device under test back to a known state would be even more interesting. The resulting error logs contain patterns, which help to find design or configuration bugs. Detailed statistics about latency and jitter of every mapping may be generated in parallel. Having a common configuration format for the gateway and for the verification environment can eliminate inconsistencies. The Field Bus Exchange Format was chosen as gateway description format. FIBEX is an XML-based file format, the upcoming standard for network configurations, which combines information about every aspect of a complete in-car network including controllers, channels, frames and signals. It is also the first standard to describe gateway configurations. In this paper a verification environment for arbitrary gateways is presented. An automatic test generator reads FIBEX files and produces configuration files for the remaining bus simulation. Finally a complete regression test environment is presented.
