This paper provides an overview about the new German research project AKTIV. AKTIV is the logical continuation of the research projects MOTIV and INVENT which were funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). AKTIV is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economy (BMWi) and runs from September 2006 until August 2010. The activities in AKTIV have started in 2006. Currently specifications of the individual system approaches of the partners are under preparation. The specifications base on analysis of updated accident statistics. The following step will be to start the development of the concrete system and building up demonstrator vehicles as well as the design of testing scenarios for these systems.
