In industrial products such as vehicle, the performance of total system must behave stably not influenced by unevenness of parts quality, namely uncertainty. In this paper, an automobile suspension system that significantly characterizes the NV performance of the car is focused. First a simple two beams structure connected through a bolt is repeatedly assembled and disassembled and the uncertainty of FRF such as the normalized standard deviation of natural frequency is observed. Then the FE model is created in which the bolt is expressed by springs with identified uncertainty. In order to achieve the robust vibration design, the normalized standard deviation of target natural frequency should be decreased by appropriate structural modification even if the same uncertainty of the spring is existed. Therefore a new method is proposed by good use of sensitivity analysis with respect to relative amplitude of the spring. As a result, the beam structure is modified, that is a mass addition at predicted point, and the normalized standard deviation of the natural frequency can be decreased. Finally an automobile suspension system is tested when bolts are repeatedly assembled and disassembled to observe the uncertainty of FRF. Based on the proposed method, the normalized standard deviation of target natural frequency can be decreased by predicted structural modification.
