The Supratrans Project researches the application of high-temperature superconductors as a support and guidance system together with a linear feed drive targeted for use in transport systems. Baumüller is the project partner for drive system components. In cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Dresden, various versions of a feed drive were examined and simulations of achievable power levels were conducted. As a result, the vehicle drive was designed as a dual-fed linear asynchronous unit. This offers the advantages, among others, of independently operating several vehicles simultaneously - including across intersections and switches - as well as the ability to couple energy on the vehicle by way of a transformer. The stator is operated with three-phase AC voltage (400 V / 50 Hz) from the public power supply, whereby only the vehicle requires the use of power electronics. A particular challenge was presented by the velocity and position control using a probe system with an air gap of 10-20 mm as well as via the ends of the stator segments along the travel path. The probe system measures the slip frequency along the travel path, which enables control of the velocity and position. Control takes place on the vehicle using a specially designed Baumüller bmaXX 340 converter. For field, velocity and position detection, a sensor unit with two Hall sensors is located on the vehicle, which detects the vehicle's magnetic field. A field angle is calculated from the signals of the two magnetic field sensors, which are offset by one half pole pitch. This enables the drive stator to be operated with field-oriented control. However, because the supply frequency of the three-phase supply system in the travel path is not actually constant at 50 Hz, but instead fluctuates within the permissible tolerances, positional deviations from the target position develop while the vehicle is in motion, which accumulate. To compensate for these positional deviations, reference points are located at defined vehicle positions (end positions, park position), which can help to correct these positional deviations.
