A method based on a single NURBS surface is presented to represent a ship hull using an existing hull form offset. The method uses a skinning technique with the waterlines and deck side lines as section curves. The approach is illustrated for three typical ship hulls. To verify the precision of the representation, bodylines, sheer lines, waterlines, deck side lines, flat-side lines and flat-bottom lines, gained by intersecting the represented surface and the corresponding planes, are provided. Though the stern and stem arc surfaces are usually only inaccurately represented with a single NURBS surface, the NURBS surface representation makes the plane-surface intersection and the calculation of geometric more convenient and accurate than in approaches using surface patches.
