Research and development in IR engineering, which constitute a strategically important scientific and technical specialization of optoelectronic instrumentation, are the basis of the activity of NPO State Institute of Applied Optics (GIPO). Unlike other establishments, which as a rule solve individual problems of IR engineering, GIPO, which traditionally has great creative and scientific-technical potential available, after creating a good production-process basis, has taken upon itself the comprehensive solution of a problem-from the study of the physical bases and functioning principles of weapons and the objects of military engineering equipped with modern IR optoelectronic systems (OESs) and the creation of new optical technologies and a new set of components of IR engineering to the release of experimental samples and series fabrication of OESs that operate in the IR region-as well as scientific, technical, and metrological tracking when they are in operation. The authors point out the large role that scientists of the S. I. Vavilov State Optical Institute played in establishing IR instrumentation at GIPO.
