In order to design an effective ventilating system of express buses, design factors such as air inlet/outlet positions, air distribution, proportion of ambient air, and airflow control are considered in this work. The computational work is carried out using the CFD code FLUENT/UNS V6.0 and is composed of three major part. The first part is the external flow analysis around the bus. The information from the external airflow behavior can be extended to the bus interior in order to provide more information to set up the air outlet locations and air distribution. The second part is dedicated to AC(Air-conditioner) duct transports air from the outside of the vehicle, and supplies fresh air to the passenger compartment through louvers. Boundary conditions can be obtained from the results of duct flow analysis and experiments. The other part describes bus's interior airflow in several cases of air inlet/outlet vents. On the basis of the simulations and experimental work the results are summarized as follows: 1. Air inlet/outlet positions specified in computational model of a bus for the good air ventilating performance. Considering the crosswind effect, the vent must be located carefully. 2. The role of independent roof ventilators is limited. In the view of air distribution, also, individual roof vents or ventilation units are ineffective. 3. For the purpose of good air distribution, the bigger size and the wider range of air supply is needed, air outlet should be considered optimally depending on the various parameters. 4. If the air inlet and outlet positions are upset, and their sizes effectively, the controlled natural ventilation can be accomplished using a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the bus.
