Materials diagnostic by NDT is an important element of manufacture and service. The industrial demand has created the necessity of developing magnetic tests of constructional materials. The DM curve may be used to describe every ferromagnetic material subjected to long-lasting mechanical loading in the range of fatigue loading under lab conditions. The research shows that it is possible to introduce these procedures into service. The behaviour of the DM curve can be characterized by proportional constants derived from locally measured magnetization values produced by using standard magnetic field sources in the magnetization interval JMRM. The practical application is related to magnetization change measurements. The magnetic NDT has obtained a new diagnostic tool for assessing the progress of the fatigue process. It is possible now to conduct measurements previous to crack formation. The magnetic monitoring applied here for wheel set testing may be extended to other industrial sectors.
