The paper presents a concept of the application of noise technology for future automotive active radar. The present investigation in the automotive radar area is focused on two technologies: noncoherent pulse techniques and FMCW techniques. The first approach suffers from the lack of Doppler information, the second - from high probability of improper association of targets between raising and falling frequency sweep. The noise technology allows engineers to design radar which is free from abovementioned problems and which can measure both target distance and radial velocity in unambiguous way. The main disadvantage of noise technology is its very high requirements for computational power. Required computational power, although available now, is still very expensive, so this technology cannot be used in mass production now, but intensive progress in hardware and software will decrease significantly the noise radar cost in near future. The paper presents the fundamentals of noise radar technology and its potentials for car safety control.
