This paper presents a location based application developed within the FleetNet project, a highly dynamic ad hoc network for inter-vehicle communication. As inter-vehicle communication becomes more popular, there is a lot of concentration on 'active safety' technology, systems constantly monitoring the immediate environment of the car and actively intervening to avoid dangerous situations. However, inter-vehicle networks offer much more. The Location Based Pinboard Application described here was developed to fully exploit the characteristics and the advantages of such networks, even at very low penetration rates. The paper describes the overall architecture, the components, a prototype implementation and tests results.
