The Hit-Air jacket is a motorcyclist jacket with air chambers. The Hit-Air jacket was developed in Japan. The Hit-Air jacket differs from other motorcycle jackets. Its protective properties are activated only in the case of a traffic accident. The Hit-Air jacket consists of the outer part of the jacket, the system of air chambers, a container for compressed CO2, the actuating mechanism, and the protective pads for the back, elbows and shoulders. The outer part of the jacket is made of a contemporary technical woven fabric, from porous polyamid 6 fibres, with specific density 20% lower than the conventional polyamid 6. It is highly resistant to tearing, abrasion and bending. It is layered with a polyurethane film, which offers resistance to water and rain. The jackets are equipped with ribbons of retro reflective fabric, yielding motorcyclists better visibility when riding at night. The system of air chambers consists of air chambers protecting the neck, chest, back and torso. They are made of tube-shaped synthetic rubber, with the tube diameter of 120 mm. In traffic accidents involving motorcyclists, the time of the reaction of the cyclist is around 2 s, which is too short to prevent a collision. The Hit-Air jacket acts so that at the moment of the collision, thanks to the inertia of the motorcyclist body, the safety pin is pulled out, through the actuating mechanism, from the compressed CO2 container. In 0.2-0.5 s the air chambers are filled with the gas under the pressure of 36 kPa. Depending upon the speed and the circumstances of the accident, collision with another vehicle or a fixed obstacle, the average time of the motorcyclist trajectory is between 1.5 and 3 s, which is quite enough time to prevent the motorcyclist from injuries. Since 2003, the traffic police in Japan have been using the jacket for the motorcyclist units. Since 2003, the traffic police in Japan have been using the Hit-Air jacket for the motorcyclist units.
