In recent years TPE's (thermoplastic elastomers) have gained momentum in multi-component moulding applications where they bring added value as tactile and decorative components on a wide range of engineering materials. Recent breakthroughs in compounding technology have allowed PolyOne to expand the useful applications into more technical fields. As well as improving high temperature performance of TPE-S based compounds PolyOne has concurrently improved adhesive performance and retained good mechanical and rheological properties. Easily processable products, across a wide range of hardnesses, are being introduced which are no longer limited to low temperature applications. The new range of compounds demonstrate a significant improvement in adhesion strength to both polyamide 6, and one of the worst case scenario's, 40% glass filled polyamide 6.6.These new products open up a whole new playing field in technical applications where performance at elevated temperatures are key, applications such as moulded-in gaskets for automotive parts or anti-vibration motor housings can be more effectively realised.
