Hybrid functionality supported by crankshaft starter generators is not only a challenge for the electric machine. Also the power electronics and the control system have to provide good performance. The temperature range results in a wide variation of some parameters of the electric machine. Fast battery load changes under almost every driving conditions as well as boost support with maximum torque control are a major issue for the starter generator's controller. Therefore a robust control system is needed to support reliable traction / generation control under every environmental condition. A simulation tool called FAHRSIM has been developed to support modeling and analysis of drivetrain components and to simulate different gear shift strategies. To verify the starter generator system (electric machine, power electronics, battery and controller) these hybrid strategies can be applied to a hybrid drivetrain testbed. The modular design of the testbed allows verification of different hybrid drivetrain combinations. For this work an induction crankshaft starter generator is used. Different control algorithms for the control of the crankshaft starter generator were developed and tested.
