A halogen projection system with a 70 mm lens and a H7 bulb can be designed as a Bi-Halogen system, which shows the potential to fulfill the legal requirements according ECE R112 and FMVSS. The realistic potential and the limitations of such Bi-Halogen Systems is discussed in the paper, by analyzing the photometric data of an existing prototype. In the future this projection type system can be a solution for halogen headlamp with special construction volume restrictions. The dimensions and fixing points are the same as for the well known Bi-Litronic System. So the Bi-Halogen System fits automatically to all existing swiveling modules for dynamic bending light. The performance of the beam distributions for low and high beam is a good compromise for night-time driving, but some restrictions have to be accepted. On the other hand the Bi-Halogen System has some advantages by performing e.g. a motorway lighting function and part of the other restrictions can be compensated by adaptive lighting functions as dynamic or fixed bending light. All in all the Bi-Halogen Projection System offers to the car makers some interesting opportunities for special future applications.
