The development of a novel platform support and anchor handling vessel design, featuring a new bow and stern shape by Ulstein Verft, which signed a contract with shipowner Bourbon Offshore Norway, is discussed. The keynote of the X-bow design is an inverted shape which allows the vessel to dip down into the sea. The AX104 anchor handling tug supply vessel is 83.6m long with a beam of 18.5m. This anchor has a newly designed stern compared with the traditional one on an anchor handling tug supply vessels. Meanwhile, the PX105 supply vessel is larger at 88.8m and a 19m molded breadth. This vessel is the first offshore vessel in the world that satisfies the 'CLEAN DESIGN' class requirements and is also fitted with diesel electric propulsion.
