The market for high-ratio gears with compact design is increasing. Actuator systems mostly driven by electric motors, are increasingly used in the automotive sector including e.g. superimposed steering systems, actuator systems in the chassis sector or servo-drives for more comfort. In the industrial sector the need for small, light and powerful transmissions with low backlash is high in the field of automation engineering and robotics. Weight is mass which has to be moved and accelerated during fast movements and high-speed cycles in automation engineering. The energy required is to be kept at a minimum by using small and compact drivelines. The new Servoplan-CG compact gear transmission range developed by ZF Friedrichshafen is ideally designed to meet the special requirements of automation engineering and the robotics market. Here, the customers' requirements for a high-ratio transmission with flange design have been taken into account and implemented consistently. An entirely new transmission structure made it possible to design a planetary transmission with involute gears featuring unique compactness and flexibility. This high power density enables the customer to benefit form a high degree of flexibility when designing drive systems in automation engineering. The used transmission structure is advantageous wherever a high transmission ratio is required together with a short design in disc form. Therefore, the transmission featuring a compact design can basically be transferred from automation engineering to any other areas of application.
