The aim of the paper is the sound quality evaluation of 125 cc Motorcycles with respect to the Asian and European marked by means of psychoacoustic Quantities. The data were obtained from typical representatives of each marked under typical situations of experience. For a better understanding foundations of psychoacoustics and sound quality are added. The comparison of loudness, sharpness, roughness and tonality of the two motorcycles show remarkable differences. Both analysed and compared motorcycles are accepted on their own market with respect to their design and the sound characteristic, whereas the subjective sound impression is very different. This subjective sound impression can not be described adequate using conventional analytical methods like the analysis of the level and frequencies. To obtain a better description of the different sound characteristics psycho-acoustical parameters were evaluated. These psycho- acoustical parameters exhibit particulate engraving differences between both motorcycles. The comparison of both 125 cc-Motorcycles shows the acceptance of a motorcycle-sound at the European market which is characterised by a higher loudness at higher frequencies reflected by a higher sharpness. In opposition the Asian motorcycle is dominated by a higher loudness at lower frequencies which involves with a low sharpness at the pass-by noise and a lower specific roughness at the idle speed noise. For further investigations in the sound quality with respect to the culture area and the motorcycle categories like racers or cruisers more representatives and a sound rating with a reasonable amount of subjects is necessary. Those results in combination with the psychoacoustic quantities might be the basis of objective target sounds.
