The advent of satellites, more than 10 kg but less than 300 kg termed small satellites which includes nano and micro-satellites, has increased the capability of countries in building their own mission satellites such as Malaysia. For the last ten years, over 350 small space vehicles have been launched in space by a lot of countries in the world and the small satellites are the major fraction out of the general numbers of spacecraft. It is known-fact that, there are no light and economical capabilities for launching small satellites, making access to space prohibitive to all except well-funded companies, government and military. The solution for inexpensive launch system can be based on an aircraft-based launching system that uses the existing aircraft (fighter) and a designed micro-rocket or existing missile as its operating stages. Launching a satellite using the ABSL System from the designed altitude and velocity reduces the weight and dimension of a launcher in comparison with the existing launchers, such as, Ground-based launch and sea launch. The reduction of dimensions and weight can lead to the reduction in cost. In addition, this type of launching system is mobile, cost effective and does not follow what has been done by the present space countries in building vast ground launch infrastructure. This paper presents the feasibility study of the Aircraft-Based Satellite Launching (ABSL) System for launching small satellites into Low Earth Orbit and to operate as National Launching System for small satellites.
