The new durability transfer concept allows to reconstruct the damage evolution of quantities such as forces and stresses all over a vehicle from only the accelerations measured on the suspension. Thus long term measurements can be performed extremely cost efficient with only a 3 axis accelerometer on the Suspension and a data logger. The instrumentation of a vehicle therefore is reduced to a minimum. Measurements can be accompanied only by the driver. The accelerations are online processed, rain flow counted and the damage accumulation is evaluated. Counting into the rainflow matrices allows to perform measurements for very long durations up to years. The data are down loaded via serial interface or by GSM modems from the home office. From the calculated damages of the accelerations the damage evolution of other quantities all over the vehicle can be derived based on the durability transfer functions identified in short term measurements. Due to the minimum effort for long term measurements, obtaining most valuable data about the complex loading and stress conditions in many areas of the vehicle, this concept is favourable for investigations on the loading and stress conditions under customer usage conditions on a larger number of vehicles for a statistical evaluation. Also the effort for investigations of specific mission profiles and the comparison of usage conditions in different countries is reduced to a minimum.
