Motor vehicles are long lasting consumer goods of high quality. The motor vehicle manufacturers are therefore forced to demand from their vendors light fastness values of the fabrics that exceed the already very high level achieved of home textiles. The demands thus placed on automotive textiles have increased significantly in recent years. In addition to functionality and stylish appearance, automotive textiles must also meet the required standard of homeliness and comfort is paramount. All efforts go in waste, if the interior, the comfortable seats and armrests, the side - panels and the roof liner of the automobile do not all have the same life - span. End consumers demand that the fabric must be durable and resist fading, tearing or soiling. For a material to be considered for use in motor vehicles the following factors form the performance criteria: trimabiliy, colour, handle, and cost. In aspect of colour a special consideration should be directed on light fastness, the role of UV absorbers and metamerism. In this technological area Clariant Color Concept provides a new path to generate color and solve the problem of metamerism. Clariant provides color for all plastics through its MasterBatch division, leather through its leather division and also to all automotive textiles through its textile division. Global communication and collaboration between supplier, manufacturers, dealer and end consumer will provide great flexibility in providing new products and services with improved technological advancements. It will also cut down time and cost of meeting the ever-increasing demand of automotive textile sector.
