Herning Shipping was founded in 1963 as a family-run transportation company in Denmark. Herning Shipping specialises in transporting liquid products, including vegetable oils, animal fats and oleochemicals, and has one of the most diversified fleets on the European scene. Herning shipping divides the liquid products it transports into four main categories: - Petroleum products including lubricating oils; - Edible products, vegetable oil, fats, oleochemicals, molasses, waxes etc.; - Acids, solvents, sophisticated chemical products etc.; - Liquefied petroleum gases (LPG). The company's market coverage spans Northern Europe, the Baltic, Mediterranean, North and West Africa, South America and South East Asia, as well as river-borne traffic and operations in Arctic waters. By operating with owned tonnage, time charter tonnage and management tonnage, Herning ensures that it is always able to meet the demands of the market, and tonnage is continuously replaced and renewed to maintain a competitive fleet. Part of the shipping company's business operations are buying and selling of second hand tonnage, contracts for new ships and other projects as well. Currently, Herning dedicates 16-18 vessels to the EU/FOSFA vegetable oil trade with ships ranging from 600 to 6000 dwt. Total annual volumes of oils and fats, molasses and Urea Ammonium Nitrate carried are around 1.6 M tonnes, of which transshipment from ocean importers is around 160000 tonne. Herning is one of the busiest oils and fats carriers in the world by number of separate voyages. Currently Herning operates and markets 32 vessels including the 17 owned by itself. Herning has dedicated two ships for fuel trade, yet more vessels can be nominated should the need arise. Herning has always provided ships able to comply with the European minimum quality requirements for the carriage of oils and fats.
