The use of xenon headlights can become an attractive solution for two-wheelers in the future due to the increased range, higher peripheral visibility, longer Iifetime and lower energy consumption in comparison to halogen Systems. These advantages have also made the xenon technology a big success in automotive lighting. In addition, the increased conspicuity of a xenon headlight would be a major benefit for two-wheelers. For cars equipped with xenon headlights the use of a headlamp cleaning system and a automatic leveling system is obligatory. Despite of the advantage in using a headlamp cleaning system, its benefit for a xenon headlamp is not higher than for a halogen headlamp since dirt on the covering glass leads to the same relative increase of glare for xenon- as well as for halogen headlamps. In the same way the benefits of an automatic leveling system are essentially the same for xenon- as well as for halogen headlamps. A correction of headlamp rotation in curved roads would give an advantage since glare can be avoided in right-hand bends and the range of the headlamp can be considerably increased. However, because of the dynamic nature of a motorcycle, these issues are more complex for the motorcycle manufacturer.
