Overhead presentation. Main applications of natural fibre reinforced composites in the German automotive industry: front door liners: 1.2-1.8 kg, rear door liners: 0.8-1.5 kg, boot liners: 1.5-2.5 kg, parcel shelves: up to 2.0 kg. Processing technologies for natural fibre composites in German automotive industry: thermoplast press-moulding: 64 %; thermoset (duroplast) press-moulding: 35 %, injection moulding: 1 %. Market value of natural fibres for composites 2003: price level for natural fibres 2003: 0.50-0.60 Eur/kg. Market value in Germany 2003: 18000 t = ca. 10 Mio. Eur. Market value in the EU 2003: 25000 t = ca. 15 Mio. Eur. Future trends 2005: Market potentials & growth rate: Increase in the average use of natural fibres per vehicle in press-moulded parts. Market potential for press-moulded composites: Average use of natural fibres per vehicle 2003 (Germany): 5 - 10 kg. Market potential Western Europe (18 Mio. vehicles): 90000-180000 t/a. What's NF-PP? NF-PP is natural fibre-polypropylen; a compound material with a polypropylene synthetic plastic matrix, reinforced by natural (usually bast) fibres and a bonding agent. This material can be traded as granulate/pellets and be used quite as conventional materials. The final production of a part with this material is done by injection moulding, a standard technique used by thousands of factories worldwide. The final part does not need to seem natural or unconventional at all, therefore it has many potential applications in everyday life.
