This paper presents some dynamic responses recorded during normal operation of a QR freight container wagon and the associated computer simulation. For the purpose of computer simulation, the track was modelled using track geometry car data and the freight wagon containing three-piece bogies was modelled using the known characteristics of the wagon components and the loading data. VAMPIRE(registered trademark) wagon modelling software was used for the simulation. The simulated and the measured dynamic response of the freight wagons enable more complete understanding and deeper insight into the causes and response of track induced wagon dynamics. The improved understanding and the validated computer simulation models potentially extend the capability of the theoretical framework in solving complex practical problems.
