Durability tests of a dual-fuel diesel engine fed with liquified propane-butane gas were carried out. The observed valve knock occurrence was assumed to be the main reason for the wear of the piston, piston rings and cylinder. A synergy of the knock effect and the interaction of hot combustion products with lubricant and external layers of sliding engine elements contributed to the wear intensification.
