A new terminal called the Big Sweep has been designed to allow liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to be offloaded away form onshore infrastructure. The system is composed of three basic elements which include a monopod structure, a rigid truss arm, and the LNG transfer system itself. The Monopod Structure is piled to the seabed at the base and acts as a pivot to allow the truss arm to passively weathervane 360o around it in the optimum direction with respect to the environmental conditions. The Big Sweep can be used both to export the LNG from a field, as well as importing it for gas storage.
