A new cobalt-free alloy for exhaust valve seat inserts was developed from Fe-Cr-C, Fe-Mo-Si particles. The resulting alloy provides sufficient wear resistance in conventional engines, is free of both cobalt and lead, maintains good machinability, and reduces production cost.
