The air-ground combat of the future is taking shape through a series of incremental steps, which sets the dual challenge of how to integrate technological developments such as battlefield digitization and robotics while conserving current ground platforms, through a merger of information technologies and weapon systems. This article takes a look at simulation-based design (or SBD), current practice in the industrial world, with a three-pronged approach involving simulation, battlelab, and demonstrator.
