Active Safety to avoid accidents is considerably characterized by environment, driver and vehicle, which may be reason or triggering factor of an accident. Today the maximum percentage of accidents is caused by errors of the driver. Car manufacturers can take influence only by the characteristics of the vehicle. Driver performance with respect to perception and fitness is continuously improved by appropriate measures. The same applies to operational safety as a necessary requirement for effective accident avoidance. In addition tremendous effort is spend on tuning and testing to ensure best driving safety. The vehicle behaviour is investigated in scores of driving situations at much different weather and road conditions. By this the vehicle gets at safe overall behaviour which harmonizes with the capabilities of the driver in all possible driving situations. It is always a compromise on the complex requirements of the influences taken into consideration, and in addition is formed by the philosophy of the car manufacturer and the type of vehicle. This also makes it very difficult to judge active safety. Approaches to evaluate active safety based on objective results of some well-chosen test procedures cannot satisfy. Especially for vehicle dynamics no sufficient correlation exists between objective test results and accident avoidance. Moreover the concentration on some specific tests doesn't deal with the aspects of the overall compromise of vehicle tuning.
